C25 MK II Keel question
ko6dr2010-11-25 18:45
Hi - I purchased Rendezvous 2 years ago and am hauling her for the first
time. The yard pulled her out of the water yesterday and immediately
called me to tell me the keel appeared to be supported only by the
fiberglass hull, and that it moved several inches.
I know the early 25s had the keel encapsulated in the glass, and that
they were designed to have some flex. The Mk II has keel bolts, so I am
wondering if I have a problem, or is this normal? I will go back to the
yard on Monday to look at what they have found and I would like to be
more informed that I am currently.
I have searched the net for C25 keel flex, but only have found info on
the Mk I (early) hulls. I assume the combined brilliance of the list
will help me understand the issue.
On a completely different issue - I am missing a piece of aluminum rub
rail at the stern. Any idea where I can find a replacement?

Make sure when they pulled the boat that they did not cause the damage, this happens quite often. It is possible to have the keel move when it has struck something very, very hard, check for marks that are old and any new ones. PS I also have a Cal MarkII.

Tony
I'm surprised that your boat has keel bolts. I've only seen this
model referenced as "encapsulated lead keel". My 2-25 is
one of the last built(1983) and I've seen no sign of bolts. I
would also be suspicious of marina handling (I wouldn't want
to miss my boats haul out). You probably would have
noticed a keel this loose while sailing.
