"NODROG" is still here!
Well, her former co-owner is still here anyway. My Dad and I sold NODROG
in July of 2008 but still have a virtual library of info from 38 years of
CAL 21 ownership to fall back on.
I think you already checked out the CAL 21 web site maintained by another
former CAL 21 owner, Richard Fuller (RUTA BAGA) who now has a CAL 28
(1960's version) and really hasn't been able to update the site in a long
time. I was going to try to respond to your posting on the discussion
page there but had not had a chance yet.
Anyway, I'm still here and you can feel free to "pick my brain" any time.
You can contact me off-list if you wish, but there is a lot of CAL
knowledge on this list........ just not as much CAL 21 as there once was
(used to be 3-4 of us on an earlier list on SailNet, I'm the only one
left now I think?)
I just realized one reason that you might have missed my recent
posts........ see my "new" signature.

I was recently given, yes given, a sweet little boat that at first I
thought might be a Catalina 22. After some lucky research and talking to
the fellows at Catalina discovered it was in fact a Cal21! OK that's a
start. The sweet little trailerable sailer was on it's trailer and came
with a 4H Yamaha. It's a 1971 version and still in pretty darned good
shape. One problem that I would like to tackle before the ice leaves the
Hudson river is the keel raise/lower set up. Currently the cable is
bolted to the ballast on the keel and from what I'm reading that just
ain't gonna fly for this Virgo sailor. So if anybody out there can help
with any info on this boat, current name Summer Wind, please give a yell.
Only 21 I found going through messages and photos on this group was
NODROG, and those folks stopped posting a while ago. So back to your
drinking folks, thanks, ralph(rip)

*Hi Rod, Has been a busy "sailing day" for me. I took stanchions off
Com-Pac23 and recovered her, and spent hours on the cptr researching sailing
stuff. Beau sent me a great link that explains lots about the keelwinch
setup and helps explain some prior stuff about a keel plug that was up there
someplace(I think yes Ruta Baga). I'm beat and getting off here. I will
contact you off list when i recover! Best, rip (ralph)

That was NODROG's Keel Plug drawing, graciously posted by Richard Fuller
(RUTA BAGAS), that was before I had a scanner.
Glad to help!
Rod Johnson
PS: I just looked at that SailNet page..... nice to see another CAL
21(sailaway21) that is mostly still "stock", although has some great
upgrades! That hatch in the stern is owner-added at some point, sure does
make access to the lazerette easy! I see he added seat scupper/drains
too, we added those to NODROG after years of having to mop up a puddle in
the corners of the cockpit seats.
