Canadian Wall

Husar, Charlie [USA]2010-12-23 17:38 UTC
No disrespect to Chris H., but I am getting fed up. In the East, we have been having heavy NW breezes and cold temps for what seems like weeks on end and no end in sight. These d**n Arctic highs keep coming down from Canada, apparently as a payback for something we did (or didn't do). There have been periodic discussions about building border walls here in the US for various reasons, but I am now proposing a 25,000 foot high wall at the Canadian border to keep the Arctic highs where they belong. Cheers and Merry Christmas Anyway Charlie

Bah, humbug. Perhaps I will be less grumpy when the water is hard enough to sail on, but then I face the challenge of extracting the iceboat from the garage, no small task. Chris Campbell Wishing happy holidays even to those who are sailing.

Chris, we all have the right to be cold and miserable. We can only hope that our coldness and misery are derived by methods of our own choosing. Some are not so fortunate. I have a biased view but I think that people who go sailing or engage in other outdoor activities that require some knowledge and skill are among the most fortunate anyway. I think the absurd pay for CEOs and investment bankers is inexcusable, but I've known a few of those folks and would not trade places for any amount of money. I know one of the investment-banker persuasion who spent some time describing the boat he would own and sail "some day." Meanwhile (this was summer) I was going sailing almost every day--right now, not "some day." And at the other end of the financial scale, life can be pretty grim. There's not much that's inspiring or elevating in most poverty households. It always puzzles me when people suspect that others are maneuvering to get on welfare. It's like maneuvering to get into jail. Which reminds me of Dr. Johnson's famous dictum, pertinent to a discussion of being cold & miserable on purpose: No man will be a sailor who has contrivance enough to get himself into a jail; for being in a ship is being in a jail, with the chance of being drowned. A man in a jail has more room, better food, and commonly better company. (March, 1759) Chris Campbell >

can you just imagine the wind tunnel effect? Like a 100 mile swath from coast to coast cleared like a runway strip? But what if it comes from a southerly, tornados stateside, the great lakes would turn into blenders? Of course, the materials could make a difference, as in the three little pigs.....HH From: "Husar, Charlie [USA]" <hu… [at] bah.com> To: "Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com" <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> Sent: Thu, December 23, 2010 9:38:13 AM Subject: [Cal_Boats] Canadian Wall No disrespect to Chris H., but I am getting fed up. Hay I take no offense as we gots nothing to do with ah! Its all a matter of global warming that is increasing the temperate area in temperature resulting in the a dramatic shift in annual temperatures. One thing I learned while travelling in the States, never discuss global warming, While the sciience may be bad in both camps, and personally I think it is, but from early university days when I took climatology, an increase in the mean global temp of 2 degrees is the trigger value for non recoverable events. At least so we were taught in the 70's. If you look at the mean temp increase sitting at 1.7 currently for the last two years, and the changes in temperature zones, its time to formulate an opinion. What that opinion may be is up to you. But sorry Charley, we gots nothing to do with the jet stream, nor how its formed or how she flies, it comes from the tropics actually. later.... /ch On Thu, Dec 23, 2010 at 12:38 PM, Husar, Charlie [USA] <hu… [at] bah.com> wrote: > No disrespect to Chris H., but I am getting fed up.
