xmas sailing
Hi All
We got our Cal 30 paid off two days before Christmas (a month early) so we decided that if we got a weather window we would go sailing.
We got up Christmas morning and spent time cleaning house before we opened presents, while letting the dogs out I found a nice warm (56 deg) day, with sunny patches and a light wind. Close enough, it would not get any better this time of year. We ran around gathering up sailing gear and feeding pets. Presents would wait till we got back. We motored out of the marina and set sail in a light breeze. We had a very nice leisurely sail under 155% jib and main. We made a whole 4 knots for a brief time. The sun popped out of the clouds and it was great. When the wind finally died we bagged the jib and flaked the main and headed back in. While docking Vala (wife) jumped onto the dock to tie up and fell over. To make a long painful story short she had landed too hard and shattered her knee. After an ambulance ride to the closest hospital and a cat scan she was moved to a hospital where a specialist (three days later) spent five hours rebuilding her knee. So it's now seven days later and they say she will be able to come home Sunday or Monday. She is doing pretty well. The Christmas presents are waiting under the tree for her to come home. In the meantime I've ben doing some work on the boat. I am putting a new holding tank up under the V birth and getting rid of the one in the hanging locker. Then moving the head over to the port side and putting the hanging locker on the starboard side, (more room that way). In the room that frees up I will install a shower and build a sump in the floor pan with a pump. Next I will build in a water tank in the unused space behind the galley drawers, take out the ice box and make well insulated fridge /freezer to fit that space. The list goes on. We plan on being free of the work shackles in another year then cutting the dock lines and heading for warmer waters. We are both tired of the cold, rain and snow not to mention the 9 to five grind.
Still dreaming of warm beaches.
