Donald -
Not to beat a dead horse, but do they float as I described or will they
actually sit on top of the water?
I don't know about the others on the list but I know they have built reefs
out of old tires so they had to sink them in some fashion.

They float like ice bergs, 3/4 under water and 1/4 above water. Only the top of
the tire is above water, which leads me to surmise that it is trapped air under
the top edge of the tire that makes it work. In the years that we were at the
marina I don't ever remember anyone having a tire "disappear" down the piling
and there were many summer days with 80% of the boats out of their slips. Of
course, the dock lines were hung on either hardware hooks or nails in the
pilings which would provide some support to the tire, but the tide range was 4
feet and I don't believe that there was much actual tension on the docklines
while hanging, so the tires were floating on their own!

OK, I got proof! Go to Google Earth, type in Cheesequake State Park, NJ
and go north on the Garden State Parkway until you see the marina on the east
side of the parkway. Click on the photo "Fishing Time" and you can clearly
see the tires floating on the water on the pilings.
Pffffffft!
Yeah sure, you prolly "Photoshopped" it in there ;-) LOL

What a world we live in..... Didn't take the photo, didn't edit the photo,
don't own PhotoShop, but we can all watch Fox News and believe I did!
Brae, I found the bagel place I was telling you about. La Dolce Bakery on
Throckmorton Lane on Route 9. Best bagels ever!
When the hell did they build all of those houses on the entrance road to
Morgan? Do they know they are on a Superfund site? Progress. The rumor always
was that a developer would buy the marina and build condoes on the water. Guess
Pete and his "connections" kept the marina in the family?

OK - to settle this, I'll be down at Morgan over the weekend getting rid
of the accumulation of snow on 'Destiny' and will check the docks and
send a photo of any Tideminders I find, tyres or
otherwise.......(un-photoshopped of course)..
And I'll be sure to check out La Dolce Bakery too!

Don,
All the Condos, and the 250' (that's 225' is before they add smoke stacks, air conditioners, an illegal penthouse) tall condo they are going to build upwind from Basin B are being built on land fill over old leaking oil wells, refineries, and metal plating plants, on land expressly forbidden and sworn by Generals and Politicians (is a General a politician with a fancy uniform?) to never ever be developed in "perpetuity" ('perpetuity' is Policianese for 6 months and behind your back in a smoke filled room)

Would you be able to tell me the difference between "sitting on top of the
water" and floating?

This is why I never trusted the land buyout in New Jersey where farmers were
paid to not sell their land to developers. I always figured that this was just
the mis-use of our tax dollars to delay the inevitable. Popular pressure will
always outweigh correct policy. And developer money will always out produce the
voter! Woe to the common boater in LA. Or is that Whoa....
