Actually, I am looking at the cal20.com site and I see that they just don't
like me. Oh well.
The Web server you are attempting to reach has a list of IP addresses that

West Sail 32
Rich Beliveau2011-02-28 01:24 UTC
I know we are/ were Cal owners but a good friend and fellow sailor is selling his west sail. She is totally outfitted for cruising needing nothing. He's asking 40 but will take offers.
Thanks

Maybe the business failed. That isn't a home. I am guessing that the site
was on a computer in that building.
Your email will probably bounce back to you in an hour or so if it hasn't
already done so.
If I could get the contents of the site I could put much of it back up. But
that may be difficult.

Your good. I went a different way, googling the name and address.
http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/product-compint-0001343294-page.html
then from there to the company website http://www.macson.com/ to the contact
page.
Hopefully is email is still valid on that account so we can retrieve the
data. Seems pretty strange to me that this has gone unnoticed by the LA CAL
20 crowd who are plentiful and tight. So why do us old farts on our slow
boats have to come in on this..;) Very strange.

Maybe cal20.info ( I checked it is available) ?
on a side note, I did register cal29.info, which I'll get around to doing
something with when I get some spare time, but in the meantime happy to
transfer (FOC) if someone is willing to take it up.

That's very nice of your. The thing is however its a fleet site. So
its not a matter of transferring the domain and adding data, rather a
matter or recovering the existing data. It was a very active site with
forum up until a few months ago. With all the buzz of the new cal 20
fleets starting in the Bay and lower CA its strange that this resource
went off line and no one local picked it up to recover the data.
That's really what I'm wondering about.

I've sailed on this boat many times and with 15 -18 knots of wind we were doing 6's. We always had a clean bottom but the boat sails well. Very tough and dependable.

I've sailed on this boat many times and with 15 -18 knots of wind we were doing
6's. We always had a clean bottom but the boat sails well. Very tough and
dependable.

I guess an Ingrid then is not on your fav list either, or alternatively a
Colin Archer..:)

Just poken fun no slight intended. Personally I would take either as a gift
but only as a gift.

This is not the cal list I remember at all. I've cruised through the Bahamas, the keys and marquesas with this boat and never had to wait much. I now have a 44 on deck schooner who's hull speed is 6-7 knots under good conditions 7-8 when it gets blowing. We gave him an hour head start and he came in right behind us on our daily runs.
Sorry I brought this up. They have as big a cult of sailors as the cals do. A very stout boat capable of going anywhere.

If it takes all weekend to get to Catalina on a Westsail 32, think how much money you will save on mooring fees, and or, you'll have most of the Isthums to yourself!
On our Cal 24 we are too cheep to moor, we cruise up and down the coast till we find a cove to anchor, and throw the Bruce off the bow, and the Danforth out the stern. Last time I did that, I think the Bruce hooked itself on kelp and held fast. From Marina del Rey it is easy to make the "other side" and head for Cat Harbor, with my shallow draft it is easy to slither into the lagoon and anchor in the muck.
I shudder to think what the mooring rates are now. The Island doubled or tripled the fees they charged for renting sites that various clubs had improved their repective camps. Del Rey Yacht Club held on to theirs, a nice dinghy dock and walled campsite at Cat Harbor, so our annual to Cat and Back to MdR double race is safe, (with BBQ, drinks provided one of the best ocean races of the year.

PS, what about the delivery captain who successfully races his Westsail to Hawaii? (here we go again)

Mike,
Maybe the bottom was dirty? I've found out the hard way that boats folks said were slugs weren't if they had clean bottoms, good sails, and an astute skipper who knew his tactics and how to trim sails optimally. Examples: Columbia Challenger, Columbia 26. They can sail up to their ratings and often a whole lot faster.

I borrowed a friend's Westsail 32 one time many years ago and, by the
time we got to Catalina, the weekend was over.
Sorry

I sailed from San Pedro to Catalina aboard an Ericson 30 (which is no
slouch for speed, btw) in the company of a Westsail. Yes, we got there
before he did, but not by too much (fluky winds that day). It is a condo
compared to most of our boats and everything is a compromise as we all
know. They are not built for speed but make up for that in being a more
comfortable ride. It's apples and oranges trying to compare the Cal's to
the Westsails. Anyway, it's a boat, so what's not to like?
