Cal tender outboard
C. Peter Audet2011-03-08 02:27 UTC
We are mulling over what to do about losing our Yamaha 8hp outboard to some low-life with bolt-cutters. He came out to our moored Cal 39 (Cal content), cut the 5/16ths chain securing the companionway boards and helped himself to our motor stored inside the cabin. Goodness knows what else is gone and we won't be down to Puerto Rico 'til June to check.
Anyway...we hope to acquire an Achilles 9-10 ft. RIB from friends and will need an outboard motor. Will a 2 stroke Suzuki 6hp get this RIB up on a plane, or 8hp...9.9...? Rather not go 15, too heavy to lug on and off.
Thanks,
Peter (in winter-bound London, ON)

Hi Peter,
Many 9.9 & 15 HP outboards weigh exactly the same, about 85 pounds.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Thieves suck.
Tom

Peter:
Here is a link to the engine spec's for the current crop of Achilles rigid
hull craft. Check for the min power requirements. Think you will be fine
with what you had.
