Re: [Cal_Boats] Cal tender outboard

Can't help you on the outboard question but as a Cal 39 owner I feel your
pain. Do you not have anyone who can check on it for you or is that how you
found out about the motor being stolen? I have a couple of friends with
charter boats who get over that way occasionally and can let them know about
it if you want to let me know where the boat is etc.
The only time our boat has been broken into was at our marina and it was by
kids looking for alcohol. I probably had $5,000 worth of tools down below
and the didn't touch them and I didn't have any alcohol so I was just out
$5 for a lock. I got off lucky to be sure.
I hope that is all they took and didn't vandalize your boat. I can't
imagine how it must feel to have to wait until June to check on her.

We are mulling over what to do about losing our Yamaha 8hp outboard to
some low-life with bolt-cutters. He came out to our moored Cal 39 (Cal
content), cut the 5/16ths chain securing the companionway boards and helped
himself to our motor stored inside the cabin. Goodness knows what else is gone
and we won't be down to Puerto Rico 'til June to check.
Anyway...we hope to acquire an Achilles 9-10 ft. RIB from friends and
will need an outboard motor. Will a 2 stroke Suzuki 6hp get this RIB up on a
plane, or 8hp...9.9...? Rather not go 15, too heavy to lug on and off.
Thanks,

The older 2 stroke Merc 9.9 and 15 hp were the same engine with
different carbs. Weigh about 89 pounds. The 15 made my Avon 2.7 RIB
fly...literally
