That is really awesome to watch! I sent the link to my daughter who is a
child development major at Mills College in Oakland. She studies a group of
about 8 kids by developing play routines that are educational and measuring
their learning process. They should love watching the eagles.
Great! I hope they enjoy it and something fun happens while they are
watching.
For sailing content -- there was a creek off of the Chester River just to
the west after the northern turn of the river -- Gray's Inn Creek. There is
only one cruising guide that tells you how to get in there without going
aground and it is not marked. After you are past the entrance shoals, the
creek is 11' deep almost everywhere. Halfway up, on the western shore, is a
small cove and a bald eagle's nest is in a tree along the banks of the cove.
It has been there for over 20 years when we were there and it was about 18'
tall -- they add a foot or so every year! I could row the dinghy up close to
the tree and watch the birds through binoculars. When one of the parents
brought a fresh rabbit back he dove at me to scare me away -- it worked!
I've heard those nests can weigh up to 2 tons. That's cool that its been
there that long. I'll have to try to make my way up there some day if they
ever do anything about the sewage treatment plant. Unfortunately, the
Chester River is infamous for it's brown streak from the discharge of a sewage
treatment plant upstream. You can actually see it on some aerial photos. Dunno
if Charlie has heard of them or not but there is a local band actually
calls themselves "The Chester River Runoff". Those of us "in the know" think
its funny and those that don't just think it has some other meaning.
Great anchorage as no one else ever went back there due to the unmarked
entrance. Sorry, don't own the cruising guide anymore.
I'll have to see if its on any of our cruising guides.
Thanks!
Paul
