Chris, OMC eventually replaced that part on all their motors with one that had a roller to ride on that cam, I remember our little 1974 2HP "Mate" had the older version, and it was wearing a groove, the 1984 model that I replaced the 1974 model with had a roller on the cam follower. I think it was a virtually "universal" part for at least all the smaller outboards, check with an Evinrude parts dealer... you might be able to get a new one to replace that grooved part.
