SF Boat Yard Rec Rudder Bearing

SF Sailors, I last had my upper rudder bearing replaced at Svensons in 99 and it need to be done again. Svens did a great job but they can't commit to a schedule. The won't give an estimated completion date until the boat is actually hauled. Has anyone had this work done in the SF area and would have a recommendation? Thanks Dave 80 Cal 35 Mk I, Runnin Late Coyote Pt, SF Bay

Bay Ship in Pt. Richmond was a very good yard over the years, I have not used them since 2008. They did all my work for decades. Steve Taft has left.. but I would expect that the work is still good, or you could go next door to KKMI which does Americas Cup boat work... I made my own bearing for the 40 and installed it in a few hours. I wonder if this would work for you? I had them made out of Delrin (Nyltron) to support my new rudder, which I had made with a smaller diameter post so I could have a better NACA foil shape. The new shape was a very nice addition to the boat handling verses the old school barn door. The bushing shows no wear and has @ 60,000 miles and 11 years on it. Call Cree at BMC and ask him if he can do it. I would expect an honest answer. My guess is that he would have to send out to have it made where Svendsons would make it in house. I am not sure if in house is an advantage or not. But, worth a phone call. I am not hauling anywhere else for what it's worth. Berkeley Marine Center, SF boat works but try Cree at BMC first, reasonable and compassionate! Mike is right BMC or KKMI point richmond...are the only yards we use...SF boat... projects seem to stall..... KKMI has a better ships store ...than berkeley...KKMI has closer resterants and whale point hardware ....but BMC has better rigger (Jay Butler) and there is a great fastener Co Boline on 10th off of gilman... We spent 7 months at KKMI..(don't ASK)...and 3 weeks at BMC...We are saving up for our next haul out (Cal 36) trying to get 30 day discount and both yards are GREAT...do not like SF boat yard (have buddy that spent last 2 years there) and help and advice is limited...and some BS.. your spend BIG $$$... go to a place that is "NICE"...edward&HELEN From: mike farrell <ve… [at] yahoo.com> To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Sent: Wed, April 20, 2011 6:09:39 PM Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] SF Boat Yard Rec Rudder Bearing Berkeley Marine Center, SF boat works but try Cree at BMC first, reasonable and compassionate!
