Well 2 boats were hit in the Governor's Cup race several years ago and I'd
assume they were running their engines but can't say that for a fact. I
felt a tingle thru the wheel and I wasn't running my engine so running the
engine might make you more likely to be hit but leaving it off doesn't prevent
it I'd say.

This is one of those weird stories that makes little sense. What is the
correlation between running an engine and the enhancement or increase in
probability of getting hit by lightening? I don't see it.
