Yeah here on the Chesapeake the rule of thumb for cruising is to be anchored by 4:00 as the evening thunderstorms roll in soon after. This gives you time to eat and clean up before the squalls. I race on the eastern shore and a buddy of mine races on the western shore of the bay. We'd talk on Thursdays and he'd have stories of squalls or cancelled races and I'd have stories of trying to dock in the same storms after we'd already raced. Location location location. . . . It's in early June, and as you would expect got heavy t-storms, lightning, power outages, etc. Guy from Fremont, Ca. is freaking out, he's not used to that kind of stuff. But then I freak out with Bay Area traffic when visiting my daughter, so I guess it's all what you're used to. We had some T-storms tonight, just means summer is here. >Regards, >David Dobbs, CAL 29 411 > > >--- On Wed, 5/11/11, Allen Edwards <al… [at] PaloAltoPhoto.com> wrote: > > >From: Allen Edwards <al… [at] PaloAltoPhoto.com> >Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] Rock Hall / lightning (chris h) >To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com >Date: Wednesday, May 11, 2011, 4:57 PM > > > > > > > >California has the lowest lighting strikes of all the states plus the DC. I assume you have seen the section on lightning on the same site. It is just a collection of articles on the subject. Interesting but academic for this west coast sailor. > > >Allen > > >By the way, my backup lightning strategy is "swim ashore" > > >On Wed, May 11, 2011 at 10:51 AM, chris123 <ch… [at] gmail.com> wrote: > > > > > > >Came across this map and its rather interesting.
