Cal 2-29 update

Jim Ives2011-05-22 00:57 UTC
Greetings everyone! I would like to give a short update as to the status of the Cal 2-29 that I have been pursing for over a year. It is official, the boat is finally mine and is off of death row! The yard finally, at the begining of the month allowed me to complete the necessary paperwork to get her. Hopefully soon, I will be plying the waters with Chris H. and will soon have a rock named after me. I'm going to start sanding the bottom, already took the spreaders off for replacement, somewhat cleaned up the inside to man cave status on the hard. I will be washing the seat covers, went over rigging, changing engine oil and fuel. It has been a year to the date since I first looked at her and it has been somewhat frustrating, but well worth the wait! During our rainy spring,I have come to discover three other Cal owners! They are a Cal 27, 30, and a Cal 46! I had the opportunity to learn how to indentify Call boats from one of the owners in the yard. The people have been great with helping me getting started, offering advice, and even donating their time when projects come up! The people are glad to see someone rescue a boat and its exciting to see them come around when I'm there. It almost feels like a "boat warming" when someone offers advice or their willingness to help, and even donating materials and equipment to get started! I want say "Thank you" to this group for all the encouragement and support! I hope to be able to post some photos when available along with a video when I splash her! It is great to belong to a great group and sailing community. I wonder why I haven't done it years ago! I'm looking forward to sailing to great destinations to our neighbor to the North, hence where sailing stories can be shared, great times and good beer! Let the fun begin! Be safe everyone!
