Keel bolts and lag screws

Well, finally got around to this part of the project. I could not remove the original nuts off of the keel bolts for inspection, so I looked for alternatives to make sure I would not have a problem with the integrity of them. After considering the advise from many, I went with the lag screws. 6 each, 3/4" x 12" long lag screws, 316L SS. Drilled 3/4" holes thru the glass, and tapered holes, 3/4" then 5/8" and 1/2" for the last 5 imches. Used plenty of dish wash soap, an impact wrench, a 1" torque multiplier. I did the first one with a 1/2 hole the full way, but after I snapped the 2nd lag screw, I decided to stage the I. D. of the holes, the fit ia very tight to say the least. I tightened till contact, so as not to lift the keel. I will seal the snapped hole with an epoxy plug, and install a couple of 8" screws, fore and aft of the snapped one. Once complete, i will lay om the missing section of the cabin sole. Thanks to all for comments and feedback on this! Jeff '72 cal 33
