I have been working on an article for finding your optimum heading without at TackTick or anything more complicated than a masthead fly and a knot meter. I have been waiting to write it up as I want to get it to one piece of paper as a reference when you sail and now it is one piece of paper per true wind speed range although I can get it on one piece of paper with kind of small print. Jerry -- If you remember what speeds you were going and what your masthead fly looked like, you can use the tools to calculate which of those headings was in fact the best. Maybe you can even get a rough polar out of it. But, like I said it isn't written up so I would have to talk you through it. If anyone is interested enough to try this stuff out, I need volunteers and it will help me finish the article. The basic calculator is here http://l-36.com/polar_calculate.php but there are many other tools associated with this project. I will give links to the stuff you would take out on the boat if someone wants to test it. Allen, we have a masthead fly and a gps to see speed on Noah's Kid, if we can be of use to the paper, let us know.
