Thanks for everyone's responses. I definitely want to get both a prop and a sail and what I think I am going to do is try to find a used 2 blade as a compromise down below and a new sail hopefully. I called my sailmaker yesterday and asked for a quote on a both a dacron and a "string" sail that hank on but can be converted to a bolt rope for a roller furler at a later date when/if those funds become available. I will also get a feathering Kiwi prop when/if my ship returns to port. I'll let you know what I get quoted. Paul Adventure Kwest '80 Cal 39

you should be able to find a deal on a folding Martec 2 blade or similar. I've run them on my 27 and my 36 and find themn adequate. Well I got my quote. . . are you sitting down? $5800 for a string sail with 70% torlon (?) And 30% carbon fibers. That's actually a good price for that sail, just outta my price range. He is now going to quote me a tri-radial sail with a Mylar fabric of some sort. Trying to get the price closer to 3K. Try Quantum Fusion MX. You can get it with a variety of threads. I chose Dacron and the price, with batons, was close to a Dacron sail considering the batons that were not in the Dacron sail. The sail is considered a cruising sail in that it is not full race (read not expensive). There are comprimises to bring down the cost without hurting the performance too much. I think they are good tradeoffs. With an old boat, I chose not to have the forces or cost that I would have with fancy yards. The sail is wonderful. He is probably quoting you Curise Lam, which is a three layer cloth. The Fusion MX is 5 layers. The quote I got for the Fusion MS from Quantum was less than the Cruise Lam from North and I think a better sail. My only regret is that my salesperson left and went to Pineapple. Who is your sailmaker and where are you located?
