we hope to go to "Submit" soon to launch and do some enjoying in the Chesapeake before trying to move her south. Not much fun planning to visit her in the winter in Baltimore! what is not-to-be missed? North of Baltimore? elsewhere? Best crab cakes? other seafood? And, will be looking for someplace to store her farther south. Economical. Suggestions? Reggie

Hi, Reggie. In terms of visits on the Bay, are you looking for action or for serenity? Marinas or anchoring out? Probably some alternate combination of both/all? I'm compiling a list. Looking for a "not everybody goes there" feel. As far as a winter home, how far south? Probably just far enough south to avoid the worst of the weather? From my ICW travels, I found the area around Oriental, NC to be beautiful. Others on the list would know more about that. Charlie beat me to the question. How far south? I agree with Charlie. Oriental is great place to visit! I am a little bias since this is my home waters. Typically marinas will have slips available if you want to leave your boat in the water. Deals may be available for discounts cheaper than the normal transient rates. Dry storage you will have a couple of options. Hurricane Boat Yard in Bayboro has the best haul and long term storage rates for the area. Come see us! When we were headed north, we didn't have time to stop in Oriental but wanted to. Far enough south to make it reasonable to want to go visit her in the winter time and escape Montana winter for a while. What is the weather like in the winter in Oriental? We plan to have about 4 weeks to cruise/travel. We prefer to anchor out most of the time while traveling. However, it would seem to be a waste to not spend some time in some of the "look what we've got" spots. We haven't yet looked around in Baltimore and should before we leave. We would like to make several stops to hit the hight spots, spending a day or two at a time, then the rest of the time anchoring out. We've spent very little time tied up in marinas. Looking forward to yur list, Charlie.
