T/2
John Schmale2011-08-29 22:17
Hi, I recently got a 74 T/2, (dog house cabin), #69, but have recently seen what I believe to be 2-27s advertised as T2s. Does anyone know if the 2-27 was ever called a T/2, or just the first iteration of the 27
Thanks, John,

Hi, John. There was a 27, a 2-27 and a T-2. All are different boats. I think the T-2 has the same keel as the 27? The T/2 (meaning "half ton" - has nothing to do with weight) was designed to be rule beater under the old IOR and MORC measurement rules. MORC was restricted to boats 30 feet and under. The T/2 doghouse was the result of a headroom requirement in MORC. Others will correct any errors I made in this discussion.
Cheers
Charlie

I think a T2 happens when you mate a Cal 28 with a Cal 27 and the original Monitor Iron Union gunship sans round turret (you substitute the round turret for a square one). Either one can be deadly. Best of all is they have more standing headroom than the 27, while keeping the queen size V berth.

The 2-27 is more conventional (attractive) looking and utilitarian, with a much better resale value than its size mates.
I think the original pop top 27 is the fastest of the bunch, tho. But that assumes other things being equal, which is never the case.
