The T/2 came before the CAL 2-27, the first 27' CAL was the CAL 27 (AKA
27PT, or Pop-top), then came the T/2 which was basically a CAL 27 with
the pop-top permanently raised to form the doghouse (not quite that....
the deck design is slightly different, but the 2 boats are identical from
the gunwales down as far as I know, interior is basically the same). The
T/2 (for 1/2 Ton rating class) was basically built to modify the CAL 27
design to meet 1/2 Ton class specs. The CAL 2-27 was a new design
introduced in the mid-1970s and is basically the CAL 29 more or less
scaled down to 27'. This was also known as the "CAL 27" towards the end
of it's production run...... leading to potential confusion. Finally, the
CAL 3-27 or 27 III was introduced around 1983 and was narrower than the
2-27 but similar in appearance. I think (?) the 27 III was the last
"Lapworth design" created for the CAL line.

Hi, I recently got a 74 T/2, (dog house cabin), #69, but have recently
seen what I believe to be 2-27s advertised as T2s. Does anyone know if
the 2-27 was ever called a T/2, or just the first iteration of the 27
