We saw this little run-about anchored on the Sassafras River (Chesapeake
Bay) on Saturday; it was mighty impressive. If anyone has a quarter-million
to blow, you too can charter it for a week. Wow.

I observe that the vessel was "rebuilt in 2003," suggesting that she's
really ancient. Some connection gave me a free subscription to
_Yachting_ magazine, which used to be aimed at people who sailed boats
and now is aimed at the super-rich who own or rent vast powerboats. At
any rate, another issue arrived and it has an article about the problems
of offering "old boats," like those built as long ago as 1997, for
charter. The chartering market apparently views one of those luxury
power super yachts as very much infra dig if it's more than a couple
years old. The author explained that a properly maintained yacht that's
a decade old can still be a pleasant opportunity, even if it is
practically antique.
This is, of course, smirk material to a guy whose boats are 50 and 44
years old, respectively. Maybe my boats are small and old, but I get to
sail them myself, and when the varnish looks good or the hull is shiny,
it's me who did it. What's the fun in being aboard a vessel with which
you have no connection and no involvement? Might as well just stay at
hotels.
