Outlaw Regatta on Labor day weekend
Fellow Sailors, family and friends,
. We took second place behind arch rival Mei-mi of Mike Devine (slicked-out Columbia Challanger 24) of Redondo Beach Yacht Club-non spin cruzer class, one class only, 'cept they gave me the wrong handicap, so, it was very close or maybe I beat him this time? I finished over five and a half minutes ahead of him. Wooo Hooo!!!. If so, we corrected out ahead of Pendragon VI. (what a monster she is, and fast!)
Rock'in and a Rollin' and a surfin' along thru Hurricane Gulch. We had pretty good winds or very good winds the entire way. Nearly broke our necks flying two jibs without any special gear except separate sheets on separate blocks. Tore the vang apart as we entered the big winds( should have changed out that rotted looking line before the race. What was I thinking?). They finally admitted cruiser class racing rules, allowing us to use two whisker poles. I had rigged some fancy lines to run off of my boom, thankfully I didn't have to try it out. With just two of us aboard, no winches on halyards, it was a bear.
Met up with the nice couple that owns Celebrity, one of the Cal 40's that did the Trans-pac in 2003 with the Cal 40 class. He won the PHRF in his class. Nice going!
