Can't help you but as far as I know, it has not been beaten to death and you already meet the #1 criteria of being on this list and that is that your name is Chris as there are 5 (?) others here already. Most, if not all of them own Cal 20's though so that helps that you are not looking at one of them. Very knowledgeable people will chime in soon I'm sure. Welcome aboard mate! Welcome Aboard Chris! I have nothing of value to add other than welcoming you to the group and inviting you to change your name to Dyer. We have lot's of great folks named Chris and only one Dyer as far as I know, me. :-P We could use a couple more Dyer's as far as I am concerned. Bill, nice description of the Cruising 36 vs. the 36. One thing to add. I believe the Cruising 36 was stock 800lb heavier at 12,000lb vs. 11,200. Not sure where she puts it, but there it is... Dyer Honu - 1969 Cal 2-30, SF Bay

The CAL-CRUISING 36 was a "cruising" version of the CAL 36 from the late 1960s, the CAL-Cruising 35 was introduced around 1974 and was basically a smaller version of the CAL-Cruising 46. The basic profile of the CC 35 and the CC 36 are "similar", but I suspect that with a wider beam and more freeboard, the CC35 has more room below and on deck than the CC36. Not too many of the CC35s were built, but they do come up for sale periodically. This CAL-Cruising 35 should not be confused with the later CAL 35, that was more of a smaller version of the late 1970s-early 80s CAL 39. Check out our YAHOO Cal-List web site, there are pics there of most of the various CAL models. I currently sail and old Tartan but my girl and I are looking to moving up. I've been looking at a raised salon Cal that comes up in places as a Lapworth 35 / Cal Cruising 35 and now I see on this site "SOGNAR" as a Cal Cruising 36? Some have the dinette version but the one I'm looking at has a step down to a more traditional settee version? I'm totally confused. I thought if there ever was a group that could help, this would be the place. I apologize if I'm asking a question that has been beaten to death...as they are on the Tartan forum sometimes. extra tankage, heavier mast make for part of the weight difference on the 36's. I'm told the CC36 uses the C40 mast section, heaver than the C36, and single spreader rig instead of the double on the C36? The CC35 appears to my ehe to be a little more serious cruiser than the CC36. Chris (#4) here: Yes I have a 20 and a 3-29. Standard joke, could not afford a 39 or 40 so got 49 feet of CAL. The company literature for most boats is here: http://www.gjenvick.com/BangorPunta/Cal/ Welcome to the list. You will find that no one beats anyone up here....just really good one liners from time to time and tons of experience. Ask away and dont be shy. No foolish questions.
