I have to concur with Helen and Ed. The gasket on my fil cap was bad and I was getting water in my tank as well. After I replaced it. I had no more problems with water in the filter. Which reminds me, I should replace it again.

Recomondations in Port Huron area

Wondered if any fellow Cal owners could recommend a reputable and affordable Mercury outboard dealer with an in-house machine shop in the Port Huron area. Thanks

Your best bet is to talk to Dave, who runs the marina just under the railway
bridge in Port Stanley. He's been around for seven decades now and knows
most things happening along the shoreline in the region. Everyone I have
talked too is far too expensive as they all service the powerboat crowd.
Also I would assume that there are good and reasonable machine shops in St.
Thomas due to the industrial nature of the town. Actually this is a search I
was going to start later in the fall, that and a vacant property where I can
work on the 20 for the winter. Nothing of interest in London as far as I can
tell. Will let you know if I find anything.

Hi Chris
I am wintering my boat with Dave but he is definitely not a certified Mercury dealer. My experience is that outboard machine work is best done by someone who does it everyday and stocks OEM parts. Bought an aftermarket impeller for an outboard this year only to get 2 miles off shore to find the rubber on it had turned to jelly and I had to get towed back to the marina and replace the NEW impeller with an OEM one. Fine since. 5 hours wasted to save $3! There is no full service Mercury outboard dealer in this area and so I must go to where the boats are, Michigan! Plus it's only an hour away.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
Best,
Mark

Hmmm, you have me thinking now - The o-ring I used was a generic from an
auto parts store. Now I definitely should check it again, because I
don't know how well it will stand up to gasoline, UV, etc. Not the
greatest design/location to have the filler cap on the cockpit sole...

Your welcome. My suggestion was that if anyone would know Dave would. The
only dealers I know are Toronto, Midland and Kingston. Michigan is by far
the closest.
Best of luck

OK just for a lark I went to the mercury US site. They have a locate a
dealer page that autoreferences you IP so London ON appears immediately, at
least in my browser. There are five dealers listed that are closer then
Michigan. I know nothing, so I would make some calls...:)
