Listening to the rain on the coach-roof in the middle of the night. Who remembers " listen to the rhythm of the falling rain" After our biking fun and marina night in Deltaville, we left the slip to anchor again for the night. We removed the torn genoa and put up the smaller one. We have not yet decided if the torn one is trash. We will have it examined at a sail loft sometime, but I think cost of repairs would probably approach the cost of a better used sail or go eventually towards a new one (in my dreams). Next day we dawdled about until late morning before deciding to push on. We dropped anchor in Sarah Creek on the York river at about 6pm. Thursday the 22nd was spent in Yorktown seeing the sights and going through the Yorktown Victory Center where they recap events leading up to the revolutionary war, provide info on the Battle of Yorktown-pivotal in ending the war, and recreate a period military encampment along with docents and demonstrations. Particularly interesting were the medical tent with information on treatments of the time, and musket and cannon demonstrations with information on battle tactics back from that era. I'm researching possible places to put the boat to bed in southern North Carolina or northern South Carolina. Even some of the less expensive places are pretty pricey by our standards. It sure doesn't detour the mega yachts, though. At times, our 36 ft boat seems pretty puny alongside other boats we see in marinas. Today, after daylight comes, we are planning to head for Hampton Roads to anchor near and tour Fort Monroe, which, I believe, is the only fort built with a moat, the largest stone fort built by the U. S., and the oldest fort still in use by our military. Then, we enter the Intercoastal Waterway in Norfolk/Portsmouth. We came up through the Dismal Swamp route and enjoyed it, but will probably take the other route down since there was significant forest fire damage in the Dismal Swamp area and I heard reports weeds are choking the waterway. I've given up on crab cakes. We had delicious crab cakes once in Pensacola, but when we returned during a later visit, they had changed their recipe. The best we had were in the Baltimore area. Reggie
