Dave, (and for you old timers on the list), here is what I found (below) on a site called Sailor List or some such from some years back. It is vintage Catman. A little more research yielded a current address. Chester A Travirca 16052 W River Dr Kiln, MS 39556-8237 It is about 50 miles from New Orleans. Cheers Charlie ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sailor ID: 1164 Sailor Name: Chet Catman Travirca Gender: male Age: 48 Email: [Description: http://www.7knots.com/icons/smallemail.gif]<http://www.7knots.com/cgi-bin/show_email.pl?modify=1164> Current Location: Gautier, Mississippi, USA Local Info Volunteer: No Main Activity: Mixed Nationality: USA Looking for crew position? Yes Boat(s) On file: Crew Ad Title: My sign says..........Will work for knots ! Website URL: I am a Cal-24 owner who is rapidly approaching retirement. Though I plan to start racing my boat this spring, I realize that it is to small to do much cruising. I am looking to start crewing on deliveries and am even available for making crossings..... with the ultimate goal of being ready to make my first circumnavigation, as a crewmember, sometime after my 50th birthday 9-20-04. I have about 4 years experience sailing with both racing and cruising, around the Ms. coast here. I was also a commercial fisherman on the Oregon Coast from the late 70's until the mid 80's when I then went into the airline industry....so my seaman skills are extensive, if not a little rusty. Many things have changed since I was skippering the John Allen.....a 60 ft. trawler. I left the scene just as color CRTs were invading the electronics market...things have come a LONG way since those smelly old paper machines, eh ?? I am currently self-employed and I my schedule has now gotten to where I can get away for short periods, at WILL. I pour most of my spare cash into my Cal 24.... the 'Feather's Edge'....(did I mention I'm a huge Neil fan ???) With that in mind I might need a little warning before I put up any money for expenses or airfare......BUT, with that said, depending on the type and amount of work expected I CAN afford to travel. I COMPLETELY restored my Cal-24 from the hull out.... alone, so my boat maintenance skills are strong but there again....I'm going to be VERY reluctant to share expenses if I have to spend much time with a paint brush or sander in my hand !!! AAAAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA Any way....I'm a 48 year old male that spent his 'growing years'. 12-21, in the S.F. Bay Area, Larkspur Ca. actually, between the early 60's to the late 70's and I SOME-how, survived it all...but not without developing a very open and tolerant mind. I am now married but we have no kids so I'm not really to tied down...with the exception of these 3 huge Ridgeback dawgs that get pretty mad when I don't take them with me sailing.......HHHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHE ~!~ The two things that I would miss the most on a LONG cruise would be my surfboard and my guitars....both just a little to large for travel.....however, I won't force my 1,000 hours of music on ya...I collect live shows....I use headphones to insure the collective sanity of the crew. I can and WILL be DEADLY serious whenever the situation calls for it but I find that I'm am MUCH happier being at ease with people and having a GOOD TIME with like minded friends. I don't care what OTHERS choose to do but I have NEVER been comfortable getting wasted partying at sea...I guess it's because it used to be my livelihood out there and I took it way to seriously but I have a HUGE amount of respect for the sea and it's awesome power.... I don't even drink during races anymore...to many chances for something to wrong. I like to have a GOOD TIME out there...but I NEVER let my guard down...it just doesn't PAY....especially when you are responsible for OTHER people's lives. Besides, I kinda like the anticipation of falling down and making a fool of myself.... ON THE BEACH ~!!!~ That is what LAND is for.....isn't it ???? AAAAAAAAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA ANYWAY....I hope this gives you some vague idea of who I am and what kind of person I would be to crew with. I think that I have covered most of the bases.... I don't like to beat around the bush. No one benefits from concealing personalities..... "sooner of later, it all gets real...." and I just as soon it get real HERE, as out there, where it's to late to shake hands and go our separate ways. The only two things, I think, that I have over looked here were religion and politics......neither of which belong on a boat but.... if it gives you peace of mind to know ahead of time...... Politically speaking.......I'm EXTREMELY conservative fiscally and go just as far the other way socially. As far as religion goes.....I would gladly fight and die for your right to exercise your right to the freedom to believe in whatEVER you want......I have often thought that it was odd that our forefathers, with all their wisdom, didn't not give us freedom FROM religion, instead of freedom OF religion......if you are a zealot about ANY religion or belief....other than the LOVE OF THE OCEAN and all it offers.....then I'm just NOT the right guy for YOU. If you are interested in taking advantage of my services just e-me or drop me a line at..... Chet Travirca 3212 Coquina Cove Gautier, Ms. 39553 If you choose other crew, I hope they work out well and you have a great voyage.....and if you decide to take me along instead, I look forward to sailing with you with more good times ahead. Thanks for your considerations...... catman...........ISYA PS.....not that I wouldn't bring the board and the ax, if there was ROOM ~!!!~ ;)
