Like many of us on the list, I was fortunate to joint the original Cal list when BC was our mentor. He was always seeking out innovations and better ways of doing things boat maintenance-wise; and keeping us in line obeying the house rules so we could access the wisdom we accrued for the benefit of those that followed joining the group, or, retrieving the knowledge base for when we need it. It would be instructive to find out how this happened, if anyone knows. About two years ago a well known rigger was at mast top when she inadvertently burned through a line supporting her while using a torch, but in her case she landed on a dodger which broke her fall, but she was still very badly injured and it wasn't known if she would survive. Eric was on his boat a couple of docks away when he heard the loud thud, and heard the ambulances siren. Having T-boned the side of a mountain 30 years ago, after being blown over the top and caught, and looped in a rotar, breaking neck, arm etc. and getting a free helicopter flight to a hospital, I can relate to this accident. Yea, it still hurts, and bad injuries come back to haunt us later in life so we can advise the young, tho they seldom appreciate our experience to benefit their own health.
