Fw: You are stealing my slip G2418!!! Please relocate meeting to MdR!
This is how the "new" California Coastal Commission, created by Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown when he was governor the first time around, and an honest well meaning guy then, is protecting the Public's access to aquatic recreation now?...NOT!!
I had thought the County proposal so greedy and insane that it had no chance to pass. How wrong can we be?
And...to hold the meeting so virtually no one could easily attend to protest this cruelty?
Jerry

Nancy, can this be appealed on the grounds that the meeting was nearly inaccessible to the people who would be affected by the decision? WTF would you hold a meeting 100 miles away during work hours for the people affected?..unless your intent was to screw them?
Jerry?

11-1 in favor of the LCP Amendment
11-1 in favor of the Master CDP covering 12 anchorage redevelopment projects (~6 private marinas & all county public docks, both existing and to be taken over, I think)
Only 3 Commissioners even made a peep to try and preserve SOMETHING for the little guy. Only Commissioner Esther Sanchez had the grace to cast her vote for her principles (she is the "1" in both votes above).
Coastal staff offered a tiny figleaf of modifications to the LCP Amendment and Master CDP. The upshot is
* there is no longer any floor under the minimum number of slips in the harbor, so the overall number can continue to shrink as long as 59% of the remaining number are 38' or less.
* End ties and side ties do not count in calculating this %.--in fact, end ties and side ties are no longer recognized as existing in MdR at all!
* Existing small slip tenants will be "protected" during dock redevelopment, and moved into larger slips at the smaller slip rent during construction, but once the new marina is completed, there are no protections whatsoever.
Yes, I am a member of WSA. I will be at the meeting tonite.
Together,
Nancy

Nancy, Thursday? I thought the meeting was Tuesday. Anyway, what was the outcome. Chances are I'll still have a slip, but I may have to get a partner to share cost of it. But if that deal went thru, where the ^%$# are all the boats going to go that will be without slips now?

There are many smaller skirmishes yet to come, I daresay. Peter Douglas said "The Coast is never saved; it is always being saved." Greedy bastards are never satisfied.

I just saw on TV tonite about a big protest in West Hollywood about a public park that is being closed in redeveloped, wrecking WPA classic buildings, 120 year old historic trees, for what reason? So Developers can make easy money when really so much important work needs to be done rehabilitating our infrastructure, or restoring the L.A. river, or god forbid, BUILDING NEW PARKS SINCE WHERE THIS PARK IS BEING 'TEMPORARILY CLOSED' THERE ARE VERY FEW PARKS. The news reporters showed and organized march, but said 'It was a done deal". So much for our phony democracy.
