Adam, good idea, but it has to have a Foss style, hi density, hi efficiency foil construction, at the end of a carbon fiber tube, with at least one LED nav light on the end. Or, if you're like me, glue a bunch of skin diver flippers together and attach it to a long aluminum pole.

I wish there were affordable small diesels that were of decent quality that didn't cost an arm and a leg. There is a market for them as the sailboat fleets continue to age. Beta engines are the best I have seen lately but they are still very expensive for most people. They are competitively priced but still exorbitant.

I post this as an example of the type of engine I was thinking about. It is not a "marine" diesel, but it is a 10 HP diesel. You would have to have a gear box or transmission to give you a reverse gear. When I was a boy, I fished out of a boat that had a small gasoline engine like this. I covered many miles of water chugging along in that old boat.
