Bob, Welcome to the group, we have many 29ers. Mine is a 1972. I am currently removing a leaking port, will probably replace them all eventually. Also looking to replace my speedo and wind inst. Lots of good discussion about that lately on the list. That's what we do here. But you have one of the best boats ever built, so you're in good company. Welcome...have a 2-29 up in SE Alaska that I've practically re-fitted most of the workings with the engine on the list. Let us know if you have any questions, etc. Lot's of knowledge here...I couldn't have worked through my boat repair without this site. I don't post often, but I read daily. Welcome to the list. The CAL 29 is a remarkable boat. I have a 1973 and she is on the water almost every weekend. She may look pretty rough to look at, but she places well in a lot of the races we enter. Out Patient placed 1st in Ventura County High Points in 2010 and 2nd in the Santa Barbra Channel. This year we are tied for 2nd in the high points. They are adding another race to the calendar this weekend to see if they can break up a 4 way tie for 2nd place. They cruise well also, I cruised mine around Southern California for the first 7 years I had her and lived on it for 4 years. Once I got the race bug, we started placing and I started taking the live aboard things off and we did pretty good. I have upgraded a lot of things and there is still a long todo list. I wish I saw more on the water. I see lots of them in the marinas in the Ventura and Oxnard area and have talked to a lot of owners. But due to the current economy they just can't get away enough to sail more. What a Shame. I know of one that is elling for 3500.00. There are a bunch of members on this list who have redone their boats over the years. So you can get a lot of info from what been have done. Some things that we have done and didn't like. Looking forward to sharing info with another CAL 29. Hi Bob, Welcome! We have a '73 Cal 29 with the original Atomic 4. Great support for the boat on this forum and equally great support for the engine on the Moyer Marine site. I recently have replaced two of the main cabin port lights as well as the rub rail. For both projects I followed the excellent recommendations from this forum. Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm also working on the boat this winter. I pulled the engine last week due to two gasket leaks. I used a weight bar and about 70lbs of weight Really look forward to hearing about all the projects being worked on. b --- In Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com, david dobbs <tmft567@...> wrote: > > Bob, > Welcome to the group, we have many 29ers. Mine is a 1972. I am currently removing a leaking port, will probably replace them all eventually. Also looking to replace my speedo and wind inst. Lots of good discussion about that lately on the list. That's what we do here. But you have one of the best boats ever built, so you're in good company. > Regards, > David Dobbs, CAL29 411 > > > > ________________________________ > From: rgerity <rgerity@...> > To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com > Sent: Thursday, December 8, 2011 9:52 PM > Subject: [Cal_Boats] New subscriber > > >  >  >  >  >  > Good pm, >  > I’m a first year owner of a 1970 Cal 29.
