access panels
those panels are so close to gauge backs also. what if you mounted another sliding track next to the original, giving you four slots, but then insulate the backside of each of the two panels with a thin style of heat resistant material that cleared the tracks, and set one in the inside track and one in the outside track so they'd clear each other? You could probably do the flip-up door with a few hinges and leave the old tracks in place, save your sliding doors, insulate the backside of the door you make to length, set a catch to hold it up. You could also make a set of corners to fit on the quarter berth side of the track, with a small groove on the bottom and tall one on the top like a slide track. and lift up and then down to take it out. This would depend on what you use that quarter berth space for...to flip up on hinges would mean lots of swing room, a little less with the lift-off panel, but the original setup took up less useful space. You
could make one big panel, insulate it leaving the track area bare, and put a soft gasket on each end and lift off a whole panel.....some ideas, anyway...it's tight getting your arms into that engine space. Helen (who would still check the engine even if it was a new one, sorry Edward)
