Go ahead, buy a sailboat. I bought one, an old one, and paid 24K. Two and a half decades later, I've invested another 240k. That makes my boat worth about 40K. I don't care. I've worked for the same company for 33 years. I used to be damned good. Now I spend six hours a day thinking about the boat. They may fire me. I don't care. I just want to be there. Today, tomorrow, all week. I want to sit on her, work on her, sail her, motor her. All the time. I don't care. I used to fish. I used to hunt. I used to be a volunteer fireman. I quit 'em all. I don't care. I used to be clean cut, wore a suit and tie. Businessman. Now I wear as little as possible. Cut-offs, T-shirts. I don't care. So go ahead, buy a sailboat. And when you grow your beard and look like Captain Ahab, just look 'em in the eye and say "I don't care". That's what I do. *´¨) ¸.· ´¸.·*´¨) ¸.·**¨) (¸.·´ (¸.·' ( ..........-_/) [cid:image005.png@01CBF93B.85770E70] Timm Lessley

Will be 65 in June and still working...expect to work until maybe 70? Sounds like I'm a masochist, doesn't it? Well, on the other hand, --I live in a place where others go for their vacation, and my sailboat is a mile from my house; --I'm pretty healthy for an old fart and have no plans to die soon; --if you defer Social security to age 70, the monthly payments are much higher. I've been practicing law for 37 years this summer and I'm better at it now than ever before, and it's still challenging and even fun. The pay ain't good but somebody else does all the management and I get to be a lawyer. I've become pretty adept at leaving work at the office and not taking it onto my sailboats. So here I am, still a useful participant in the community, living in a pretty and pleasant place, and life is pretty good. I only get annoyed when a client asks me if I'm some sort of retired guy who works as a volunteer. Then I look in the mirror and think about dyeing the mustache and fringe, or maybe getting a facelift. Chris Campbell >

I agree. The best day is launch day. When I step on board and feel her yield slightly to my weight (opposed to sitting in the cradle). The first sounds of the little waves of the river on the hull, the aroma of 2-cycle, the horn in the lock. It is like the beginning of a movie when you settle into your seat and prepare for an adventure. I get the same feeling every time I motor out of the harbor for a sail, round the point and get a look at the vast expanse of blue before me, see who else is out and how they're sailing.
