Cal 28, Need to Cut hold for outboard in Lazarette
robertjmurdoch2012-04-09 17:09
Hello everyone.
On the 1 year anniversary of me buying my first Cal and First boat, the 28 foot 1968 "Old Flat Top", a friend of mine has bought the same boat...
His has an Atomic 4 in it and he is repowering it to run an outboard.
The current A4 needs a lot of work and he needs to get it out of where it is and up the Welland to her new home in Toronto.
Does anyone have photos of their cutting, hacking, glassing of the addition of a Lazarette outboard motor well?
Hit me back if you can with photos or tips.
I am going to lend him my Lazarette outboard motor well plug to make a box to just drop in after the cutout....
Hit me back also if you know a easy way to mount an outboard in a temporary only fashion.
Also if you have a fully functioning Atomic 4 you want to unload let me know.
And and and also.... um.... if anyone wants to make the trip up the canal with us let me know.... from Buffalo to Lake Ontario....Should be mid may we are making the trip.
Cheers,
Robert Murdoch

Hi, Robert. I thought the 28s had a stern cut-out for outboards like the CAL 25s do. I can send a CAL 25 photo if you need. The outboard engine would then be a long shaft or a long long shaft.
Cheers

Have you made the trip down the Welland before. I know that in one direction
you are required to have a crew of three. We came up from Ontario a couple
of years ago, interesting trip. Everyone should do it ONCE.
For those on the list who have never heard of the Welland, think Panama but
with bigger locks.

John,, When traversing the Welland south bound, you are required to have a minium crew of three aboard. When North bound, only two are required for recreational boaters.. Jim Ives - Kool BeansRochester, NY
