Cal 34 and Island Compass South Inc.

Hello All! I am asking for help of a slightly different kind tonight. The compass on my cal 34 1976 was broken so I was in touch with Island Compass South of Lake Wylie, SC. When I first spoke to them on the phone they gave me a rough quote to fix it, of about 250.00 which I thought was a pretty good price. I shipped the compass to them by fedex and they received the compass as it was signed for by the owner, Asa Lasiter. I have not been able to reach them via email or by either there toll free number which is 1-888-269-3810 or their regular number which is 919-323-5225. I have been trying for 2 weeks now. I am wondering if anybody else knows of this company, has had anything to do with them or maybe I have been taken. No big loss as the Globesetter compass was not in too good of shape but don,t want this to happen to anybody else if this company is not legit. Thanks all! Mike Gavel S/V Jenemiah Cal 34 1976

Mike & Others, I used Viking Instruments (Kingston, MA) to rebuild my aging Richie Navigator at the advice of others not to scrap it and buy a new one. It seems that newer compasses are basically plastic housings. Mine is brass, and I'm glad that I kept it. Mike, good luck with Compass South. --Michael-- From: Mike Gavel <mi… [at] hotmail.com> To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, May 2, 2012 8:13 PM Subject: [Cal_Boats] Cal 34 and Island Compass South Inc. FYI the area code, 919, is actually for the Raleigh NC area. This may just be a cell or remote office. Google search listed other Island Compass websites. Not familiar with the company, so I hope this tid-bit helps you track down a solution. Several years ago (2007-2008) I purchased two 5" Danforth Constellation bulkhead mount compasses from them. One developed a leak within a year, they repaired at no charge and paid for shipping from California. They also purchased my old Richtie compasses for a fair price as trade in for the Danforths. I was very happy with them.
