New Motor Mounts, Etc?,
Terry Spencer2012-05-06 23:03 UTC
I have my engine (Yanmar 2GM20F) out to replace my fuel tank.
It has been in there 7 years. Should I replace the motor mounts while I have this level of accessibility?
What else should I replace, under the "while I am there" theory of boat project expansion?
Thanks,
Terry Spencer

The Yanmar cast iron exhaust elbow should be considered a maintenance
item, and should be replaced every 5 to 7 years. They have an internal
water cooling jacket, which will, over time, develop a leak. This may
lead to raw water entering the engine cylinders. NOT GOOD !
You may also want to inspect the drive plate for damage or wear. Remove
the transmission to inspect it.
Replacing the flexible engine mounts is an excellent idea.
Also a good time to repack the stuffing box.
