Daniel, oh well there is next time. The race started out slow.. Lots of holes and zyphers here and there. The big boats took off but did not disapear until they rounded Anacapa Island. We stayed ahead of the J24s and the Moore 24 until we got behind the island. Bullet made it around us when we went to douse the spinnaker and realized the halyard was wrapped. We gybed away to releave the pressure in order to get the chute down. we caught up with bullet, J22 Majic Dragon and the SC27 Deliverance. We crossed the channel in good time, however just as we were .33nm from the harbor the wind shut down. The J22 was behind us and Bullet was 15 yards ahead of us. We drifted into the harbor and Bullet beat us on time. After 47 nm and around 10 and a half hours. We ended up in 2nd. Not bad for the ole girl. Randy, I have to figure out how you can keep in front of j-24s and the Moore, especially in light air. Mariposa is nowhere near as fast.... Wilkie, Our classes are often merged. I normally do good, going to weather against the J24s in the lightest air. I stay with them reaching and just behind Deke Klat [Jaded] and Jarret Baum [Tortise] in heavy weather. but once they can get a spinnaker up they are gone and the rest catch me. I am working on that part. My boat could only sail deep or as far up as 110 degrees apparent. I found a reaching strut at Minnis in Newport Beach. We are working on getting the wind moved forward. We have a couple Moore 24s here, we normally finish boat for boat but correct out. Out Patient is not a windward leeward boat, she like lots of open water to settle into her stride. she need lots of traveler and sail work. She has one jib and one spin halyard, sail changes are bare headed. I recently added a single cabin top winch and moved spin halyard aft. I am not happy with an extra person in the cockpit but had no control over getting the spin snugged up to mast.
