PHRF Ratings (Allen or anyone on SF Bay)

Allen, et al- We beat a very well sailed Tartan 10 by 8 seconds last night in 15-25kts on the water and we are both rated 126 out here in the light air Chesapeake. I know you race against a Tartan 10 on a regular basis and just wondered what his rating is on the Bay and what our rating would be out there. I don't know what kind of PHRF data you have available to you but we have the short mast, shoal draft, 3 blade fixed prop, no furler and max headsail of 155. I ask because a friend of mine with a Bristol 40 said his rating is 41 seconds faster out there due to the heavy winds. Out here we both suffer in anything less than 10kts. Thanks - Paul

the current PHRF rates for the Bay are available here: http://www.yra.org/PHRF/docs/current_phrf_certs_type.pdf the Tartan 10 is rated at 126 and you can check the rating for Cals. -- Raffaele On Thu, Jun 14, 2012 at 9:12 AM, <pw… [at] aol.com> wrote: > ** > > > ** > Allen, et al- > > We beat a very well sailed Tartan 10 by 8 seconds last night in 15-25kts > on the water and we are both rated 126 out here in the light air > Chesapeake. USSA puts out a Hi-Low-Mean list of reported PHRF base ratings around the country. I can send if you like (Sept 2011 list). Tartan 10 pretty flat around 126. CAL 39 goes 111 to 126. We usually rate higher in the Chesapeake for older boats due to wind. CAL 25 is 222 out west and 231 in Chesapeake. I am truly happy I never need to use a PHRF rating (except maybe in scoring for overall awards in cross fleet situations). One design is a wonderful thing. As you know, the T-10 is rated 126 out here. I am rated 150. In the last two races where we both raced, I beat them boat for boat by 2 and 4 minutes in a 6 mile race. On the other hand, last year there was a race where they won and we cam in second. It was a 7 mile race and they beat us by 45 minutes. I can pretty much look at how much wind there is and know which boat will win. PHRF has its limits.
