The compass housing and the part below which the engine controls are attached to are cracked on my 1978 2-29. There are no parts available A replacement Edson pedestal is $thousands, installed. So... Anyone ever made their own by making using polyurethane molds and epoxy? Thought it might be worth a try. Like this video: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LSH19G_6Yeo Anyone ever done this sort of thing? I thought it might work at least for the compass housing piece.

Two options. Move the controls to either side below the lockers or get a set of older/new marincos. Got mine on ebay for 50. Then restore the tiller. Option 2 is to build something that will hold the compass. Here you have a wide option of materials to chose from. In ether case replace the cables with new ones and get top of the line ones. /ch --

Last thought on this. Unless you specifically want a conical form if you spec the dimensions you should be able to find some tube material in either plastic or metal. The real issue is the SS bolts that holf down the plastic cone as they are now bonded with the Aluminim thanks to time and rust. Do use something else with and appropriate antisease and maintain religiously. Best of luck. /ch --

Ours cracked too. Must be design flaw. I taped the pieces together, matt/fiberglassed the inside and then faired the outside with expoxy. After sanding and painting one cannot tell it was ever broken.
