Battery monitors and useage.
Randy2012-09-10 19:42 UTC
.
I have a question. I have 2 type 31 Optima batterys on board. When I start a race they are at 13.1 volts. I am running Garmin Chart plotter, radio and tacktic instruments. I monitor my voltage thruout the day with the voltage display on my instruments. By the end of the day the instrument reads as low as 12.4 volts. If I turn my radio off it slowly goes back to 12.7 volts.
When is my battery at half charge? under load or not?

Somewhere between 20 minutes and 24 hours (depending on who you listen to) after you take all loads off the battery is when you can look at voltage.

A normal lead acid battery is 12.6 volts fully charged. The 13.1 probably
means the battery was freshly charged. Look at the page below and you will
see a battery is 1/2 charged at about 12 volts.
