Not advertising, folks. No vested interest. I know we periodically talk about anchors, so I am passing this along.

I note with amusement--the old "hole in the water" saying comes to
mind--that the appropriate anchor for my boat costs 1/5 the purchase
price of the vessel.

Maybe more than that, Chris. I’m going to trade a CAL 25 straight up for one of those babies.

That'd be inflation. The windows and exterior doors of the house I built in 1995 cost more than my parents house built in 1963. In fact, the 33' 5th wheel trailer they bought in 1981 cost more than their house. Sick, isn't it?

Anyone know how this anchor will hold in Chesapeake Bay mud? Or if it can be stowed on a Cal 31 bow roller without hitting the hull? Or, alternatively, a way to extend the bow roller a few inches.

You can build one of these and make it so that it comes apart: shank fits
through spade and locks. Two second assembly then deploy. It wont save you
any money but if you make a few for your sailing buddies, and everyone will
want one, then it becomes relatively inexpensive allowing you to make
several for yourself in different weights. About a days work once you have
the pattern, then send the two pieces out to be galvanized. The steel boat
guys do this all the time as its hard to handle a 100lbs anchor, but 50lbs
is manageable. They are assembled on deck and stow below.
Here is just one reference. There are many....
