If they were motoring could CO be a factor ? 185 mile race in light airs could
seems like you are standing still....Still you need a posted LOOK OUT... with
auto ploit GPS... light winds... look outs fall asleep (EDWARD)

Helen, I firmly believe CO could have been a major factor in the crew nodding off, and using the island as a way point. Perhaps they figured they'd head for the island and decide which way they'd round it when they got there. Isn't there a maximum amount of time allowance for cruisers motoring? I think in the MdR to San Diego Race the cruisers have a mandatory two hours of motoring, and no more, but I could be wrong.
