Thanks, Folks. When one starts getting “career” recognition, it mainly means that one is getting old. Can hardly wait to see the article. May have to go to the lie berry as I don't think the Marina del Rey God Fathers would allow West Marine to sell such a subversive magazine in these parts (so what makes me think the Marina del Rey Library would allow it's periodical librarian to have such a manifesto?) OBTW, Happy Birthday...I mean to say...Happy New Year (I think I better get my gray matter checked!!..good think I proof read this) All YuAwl,.... and as we say, "May all your fellow competitors be good losers in '13. Great story, Charlie, and great recognition for the Cal 25 fleet as a solid one design racing alternative that does not break the bank!! I don't think you are getting old at all, and your enthusiasm proves it. As an old person myself, at least as perceived by others, and older than Charlie too, I'm always a bit puzzled by people who think that acting their age means ceasing to do things. "I got too old for sailing so I bought a power boat," etc. Yeah, aging brings some inevitable limits, but it shouldn't require you to stop having fun just because of a calendar date. Olin Stephens was sailing when he was 100 (OK, not too vigorously and with lots of help, but I'll be happy if I can move at 100). Our bodies do get older, which is why I see a surprisingly old face staring back from the mirror, but one survey suggested that most adults continue to think of themselves as being about 35. That rang true for me. My self-concept is that of a normal adult person and not one who could collect Social Security if he stopped working. It's amusing when that self-concept and the perceptions of others are mismatched. There was the client who asked, "So, are you some retired guy who does this for a hobby?" I felt like saying, "Do I look insane?" Now that you can get electric everything for sailboats (sheet winches, halyard winches, capstans for the anchor rode), it's easier to keep sailing. Or you can buy one of the many nice small boats like my Cal 20 that even an old person can handle via muscle power alone. If you have the capacity to remain active, then doing so enhances your ability to be active. Use it or lose it and all that. I'm immensely grateful that my body retains most of the capacities it has always had. Let's go sailing! Chris Campbell > >

In addition to the article about Charlie there is an interesting letter from Chris about Boat Yards hauling his boats!
