Cal 2-27 Companionway slider-teak replacement
JamesD2013-02-23 17:05
Anyone ever replace their teak companionway slider rails on a 2-27? If so, what did you use? I stomped on one of mine and broke it. I was thinking of upgrading the hatch slider "system" to something a little stronger/safer. Any recommendations?

I've been considering upgrading mine as well (Cal 29), until other more
pressing projects interfered. One idea I had was to put UHMW tape on the
portion of the deck the hatch slides on. It's almost as slippery as teflon,
pretty rugged and cheap to boot, so it should make it easier to slide the
hatch.

I've seen a product intended for trailer bunks that looks like a strip of teflon-type material. You might cruise by Academy or some other trailer supply place and look at it. It's designed to be slick enough to slide a loaded boat onto a trailer.

Hi, Reggie. Some of us in our community were replacing a community house party deck, and we were trying to decide whether to use Trex. I went on the web and found many complaints about mold and some other problems. We did not use the Trex.

I replaced the companionway trim and hatch sliders on "Knot ready" CAL 27 T/2 about 10 years ago and still great, living outdoors year round in Montana.YMMVReggie

On my Cal 24 there is a raised lip of fiberglass, part of the doghouse, with a brass bar screwed to it. But the Hatch itself needs something that the guy who built the kit never added to it.
