I was at Lowe's recently and spotted a selection of little plastic filler caps to fill small holes, down to 1/4 inch. They are in the hardware section. I'm planning to fill mine because in Texas we get mud daubers (small wasps that make nests of mud). They are hard on airplanes and motors because they seek out small hidden places for their nests. Not unusual to find them in throttle bodies on outboards. Here's a picture of the 3/8 in cap. George, we are usually talking screw holes which would be ¼" max or less. The bigger concern in our area is just stopping leaks since water could sit inside the boom or other places. I've had wasp nests in a boat before (doesn't take much sitting around to have it happen). I didn't know that wasps go into little holes as you describe, but now I won't be able to sleep tonight. Thanks a lot !! I used JB Weld on Magic. It worked well. Marinetex probably would work well too. Michael Sent from Yahoo! Mail on Android

Michael, I have also used JB Weld. Did the trick. Allen, the problem with putting screws into screw holes or pop rivet holes is that the head sticks up (thread sizes also play in). A new part is often placed over an old part area (but of course, the holes never fit the same pattern). After drilling out a bunch of pop rivets in boom, on can shake the boom and it sounds like a maraca. It's the little things. If the new part is over the old hole, isn't that hole covered? Do you aluminum boom guys use Sikaflex when you mount stuff on the boom? Allen, the hole would not necessarily be covered unless I caulked the part into place, which I do not do. Sometimes it is a flat part (e.g., turning block) on a curved surface (boom or mast).. I do use Lanocote to minimize the reaction between stainless and aluminum.
