Criminals are criminals usually because they are too stupid to get a job.
Did they really expect a speedy getaway? They probably didn't even know
sailboats have a keel lol.
Dumbasses . . .
Hope the guy's boat survives.

Saw this on the local Yahoo news as well. Definitely a nice looking large
boat. I hope they are able to get off the beach soon since the weather
isn't going to get any better over the next couple of days.

Wife sent me the attached picture she shot from her phone on the way to
drop our son off at school about two blocks away from here. This is on the
Pacific side of the SF peninsula. If you are familiar with the area, there is
a Taco Bell on Hwy 1 going through Pacifica & this is right there.
Off the top of my head this was grounded around high (spring) tide. +6ft.
The tide is going out & dropping by about 6ft & the next high is a neap
tide at only about 4ft at 6pm tonight.
I would not be surprised if they have to wait till next spring high tide
4-5am tomorrow to tow it.
Pacifica (CA) police, fire department & pretty much everybody but the dog
catcher is parked watching. We are a small town just south of San
Francisco. Probably keeping the surfers at bay, as this is a popular spot (I
frequently surf there).
At least the beach is shallow & the keel is towards the ocean. I hope they
are dropping some anchors, there are rocks all over, just under the
waterline just to the left of where they are. I understand the current was
working her that direction...
Be interesting to see what happened when the story comes out. She said in
passing it looked like a nice 50ft or so boat & the crew is still aboard.

Usually the salvage and enviro fines will exceed the hull value of the boat. He may loose it anyway

The boat was stolen and worth $3.5 million so probably no fines and lots of
excess value beyond the salvage I would guess.

I hope they can exercise some imagination in getting the boat off. If the an dredge around the keel and get it loose, and lift it up with flotation bags, putting the boat over on its side and greatly reducing its draft, there's a good chance they can save the boat. I'm no salvage expert, but I don't see any other way they can get her out of there. The only other way is maybe loping off the keel, cutting off the mast, and pulling her to the closest facility that could handle such a big craft. Good luck to them.

This was posted on the SSS forum:
*Huge kudos to Parker Diving Services for pulling the stolen Oyster 82,
DARLING, off Rockaway Beach late last night. It could not have been easy
rigging a bridle and towline in the dark, with surf breaking against the
hull. Those guys are pros, and it's good to see pros in action.
WILDFLOWER was moored astern of DARLING in Friday Harbor for three days
last summer. DARLING defines the word "yacht."
http://www.interpacyachtcharters.com...rter/darling-2<http://www.interpacyachtcharters.com/yachts-for-charter/darling-2>At
the time, she had three paid crew aboard. Things were spotless.
The question is how did the "senior citizen" perps get DARLING out of
Sausalito Yacht Harbor and out the Gate at oh dark thirty?
DARLING was hauled this morning at Bay Marine in Richmond. Underwater
damage is uncertain. But the rudder and prop are history. Looks like the
"ship has come in" for Kim and crew at Bay Marine. ;-)
