More on MOB and Steering Drills

A curiosity. Would there be a difference between having a rudder on the boat that is not being used (no tiller or wheel steering), or having no rudder at all (the sucker fell off). I will confess that I've never tried either of these. That might be a good project for next summer. I've done the usual weather helm/lee helm things with sail trim but nothing as complex as a MOB pickup. Chris Campbell

My worst nightmare as I tend to do more solo sailing that with a crew...or with a crew that is competent to handle a situation such as no rudder or MOB. VHS and the small ACR EPIRB on my person...as well as trying to be disciplined about being tethered in at all times or when going forward...but we all know how easy it is simply to run up forward when you need to help the genoa around. --- In Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com, "Husar, Charlie [USA] (ASE)" <husar_charlie@...> wrote: > > A curiosity. Hi Carlie, There is a small difference between a tiller tied to center and not having one, but the principle and techniques are the same, so I do not recommend removing tiller to practice. Hi Chris, Just try it, you will be amazed at how much the main will over power the jib and just like tacking the jib will luff and then back fill.
