mast deck step

I found I have a broken piece of my deck step. And it looks like another crack has formed and I will have an even bigger piece missing. Could this be an issue with too much tension on my forestay, not enough on my backstay? Or is it possibly a compression post issue at the deck level? Is the rig at risk at this point? And no, I have no idea why the previous owner put a stainless hinge plate there. Also, what is the trick to putting a photo directly into the body of the email instead of having to add an attachment? I think you have stainless and aluminum against each other. That rots the aluminum. Probably just replace the aluminum piece and insulate the two or remove the stainless.
