bottom paint charges
r good2013-04-19 08:30 UTC
I've developed a new pet peeve. bottom paint charges. Bottom paint services are based on boat length. This is wrong. It should be based on waterline length. My 36 ft boat has a waterline of 27 feet. Another more modern 36 ft yacht with plum bow and waterline carried to end of stern could have 35+ feet of waterline, and have a wider waterline to boot. Why should they cost the same for a bottom job?

Yes and how about a 32 foot fin keel, flat bottom sport boat next to a Westsail 32...... wetted surface!

So the lesson that we can take from this thread is that somebody should
design an app that translates a photo of the boat into a reasonably
accurate wetted-surface area estimate.
