Maties, Here is a heads up on a meeting regarding the future of our Marina. It can't hurt to show up and voice your vision. As you know, the Cabal of Supervisors and Developers are up to no good. They plan to remove Santa Monica Windjammer Yacht Club building and facilities in favor of a mechanical babbling brook, a boat house for kayaks and stand up paddle boards to make more room for commercial development, which is illegal. We need to hold their noses to the fire, so to speak. Can you give a link to the law that makes this illegal? Also, can you site the specific part of the law they are violating? These are good things to be able to do before you attend the meeting :-) Allen On Sat, Apr 20, 2013 at 10:22 AM, Gerald Sobel <so… [at] yahoo.com>wrote: > ** > > > > > ------------------------------ > *Maties, > Here is a heads up on a meeting regarding the future of our Marina. > It can't hurt to show up and voice your vision. Allen, The original documents were stolen from the Library of Congress. Hmm. I wonder how that happened? I have the original documents, ..somewhere. But I saw them, I called the library of Congress and had them sent to me before the theft occurred. Others have copies of it as well. More than half a dozen officials swore on bibles that there would be, other than boating related, no commercial development in Marina del Rey, or any kind of real estate speculation as a result of the building of Marina del Rey... NOR IN ITS ENVIRONS! This was in the act of Congress of the second session, 1954, (#389??) in which the construction of the marina, using millions of dollars of Federal Funds to dredge it, and State and local funds to acquire the land...at the time, beside a huge marshy lagoon, mostly oil wells, metal plating pants and other nasty stuff...was acquired. And the land was a virtual Love Canal, not suitable for residential development, which is going up like a mega-giant alien wood fungus. This is why laws and testimony are utterly worthless unless the people organize and fight for their rights, against huge moneyed interests, crooked law enforcers, judges and elected officials, and frankly, one of the big failures of American democracy. (woops, didn't mean to get political, but it does mean losing docks, parking, and meeting facilities for our sailing activities) Jerry From: Allen Edwards <al… [at] gmail.com> To: "Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com" <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> Sent: Saturday, April 20, 2013 1:28 PM Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] Re: Marina del Rey Visioning Meeting Can you give a link to the law that makes this illegal? Your story that they were stolen from the Library of Congress sounds like a conspiracy theory so I would not bring that up. Bring the documents and site the law, the number and the section. Don't sound crazy. Don't mention verbal agreements, they are not worth the paper they are written on. Just my advice, take it or leave it. I live a long way away so not an interested party other than to wish you good luck. Allen, thanks for your input. We'll see if we can dig up this paper work. I was told by a friend of mine who has been active in the cause, (was president of the LAX area chapter of the Sierra Club) that that testimony, as well as the prospective, original map of Marina del Rey, showing a big, 3/4 mile wide lagoon, and 8,500 slips in marinas and parkland in its circumference, and two harbor entrances (we have a back up of pollution and toxics from sharing our sea outlet with the Ballona Creek outfall, another thing that was promised wouldn't be done), went missing.
