This may be of great interest to NorCal sailors...which I may be becoming sometime sooner or later.
Meanwhile, our L.A. County Planners just OK'd blockading the public boating ramp with a gigantic mechanical boating structure and docks that will keep all sailboats from getting to the sea unless they have an aux. engine to negotiate a 40' upwind channel. IDIOTS!

Save Pete's Harbor's appeal is this coming Monday, May 6, 2013. We will ask Redwood City's City Council to reconsider their approval of the planned development at Pete's Harbor.
We would appreciate any donations to help with our legal fees -- anything will help.
We are now a nonprofit corporation applying for 501(c)3 status.

Perhaps they are idiots, but treating them as such will guarantee it.
My experience in dealing with public officials is that often enough even
ones whose politics I abhor are more open-minded about questions that I
expect. If you go in with an attitude, that's what you get back. If
you go in as though there is a serious question presented, and the
proposed plan has flaws that need to be addressed, then they may be
willing to listen. It's best to assume that. Then, if you have
post-decision remedies (lawsuits, etc.) you have a good record.
If you want to call them names (and we all do that from time to time),
do it privately and get it out of your system before public meetings or
personal conferences. It's OK to holler on this list, maybe (if none of
the officials can find it), but don't keep the same demeanor in all
circumstances.
I just fired a client yesterday because she started telling me what I
_must_ do for her and insulted me when I declined. Maybe it made her
feel good, but it wasn't an effective way of getting my help.
